PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Vital Movements portrait series is a set of five portraits, based on high quality motion capture data, that visually represent the dynamic flow of energy through the human body during specific intentional breathing and movement exercises. Rooted in Somato Respiratory Integration, these movements are integral energetic practices used in order to more fully connect with ourselves, others, and the universal consciousness.
INSIGHT
The motion capture data used for these portraits was gathered in a high quality motion capture studio with directed actors. The resulting data was 30 fps motion capture data applied to a rigged human model with 4k materials.
The .fbx files for each motion were then brought into Blender and used to create a particle system which was then instanced to use each of the Platonic Solids as the particles. The color of the particles correlates to the speed of the particle and is used to convey the concentration of movement of energy through the body in each movement.
Once the color scheme and positioning of the models was determined each file was then rendered at 300 dpi in order to be printed in large format. The final print size was 40″ x 60″ and each portrait was printed in an edition size of 2 on Premium Luster paper on an Epson Pro 9900.
